Default Uncut key for FOB

I ordered a set of key blanks for my FOB. The guy at the hardware store said the grooves were slightly wider so it wouldnt cut correctly. Must have been some chinese made stuff.

Does anyone have a good source for these?

My local Ace hardware store cuts keys, including blanks for auto fobs, for $1.79 each. I had a standard metal key for my 2004 Discovery, that came with vehicle when I bought it, so I had the Ace man cut another one for me. When they put blank key in their cutter, along with the one they are duplicating, such as my key, their cutter cuts both sides of new key, at the same time, but it wouldn't cut it properly, wouldn't work in Rover, so he cut one side only, turned the key he was cutting over, and cut other side, in other words, cutting one side at a time, rather than both sides at a time; that worked, charging me the outrageous price of $1.79. So, I had him cut another the same way, took it home, and personally cut it to length to match same length as my fob key. Next, using a punch, I pushed out the small pin in the plastic end piece that pushes into the electronic key fob, put that plastic end piece on my newly cut key, drilled same dia. hole for the pin, in my newly cut key, as was in fob key, pushed in the pin that holds the plastic piece in place, pushed that into my key fob, and bingo, I had a newly cut key in my fob. WORKED FOR ME, ALL FOR $1.79.
You can find key fob blanks, but they will cost more than what I paid. Too, since the key fob blanks are so short to begin with, some key cutters have trouble cutting them, because they are too small to fit well in their cutters, while a regular full sized key blank, being larger, fits in their cutter well, making for easier cutting, leaving one to cut that key down to same length size as is used in the key fob, if you follow what I am trying to say here. My Ace hardware store has the full sized blanks, which they used to cut my Rover keys, Blank and cutting all for $1.79. See if your trusty Rover dealer can match that price? LOL.
