Did this yesterday. Trimmed the front bumper with my angle grinder and cut off disk -- came out good and no rubbing.

Pushed a tank of mid-grade (89 octane) fuel through my 01, 14 mpg on the nose. Gas jumped thirty cents over night, so l cheaped out on the next tank, regular (85 octane), we'll see what the difference is. Granted, it's been extremely windy here the last two days...so that is going to impact my readings.

Brian.

I’ve been running regular for the last month. I haven’t had my truck for as long as most of you but I can’t really see much of a difference. Super here is almost 1.70 a litre. Our local station doesn’t even give you the option. Lol. Regular or go elsewhere.
Ive heard no spark knock which I assume is prevented by the engine retarding the timing for the lower octane. So maybe it’s down a little on power? 180hp instead of 188?

Has it been proven the lower octane is bad for these motors?

I know that every time i've tried to switch my engine runs rough and i lose 3 mpg. Same result 3 or 4 times.

If you really don't notice the difference when running regular octane then your engine probably is already running retarded for other reasons.

Gas is up .30 a gallon here too, no obvious reason. Supreme top tier Chevron ranges from 3.29 to 3.59 per gallon. Just did the $70 fill up for the first time in quite a while.

These engines have no EGR valve (exhaust gas recirculation).
Low octane causes carbon build up on the valves and in the combustion chamber.

Default Nothing! I've done nothing!

I know this post is gonna get me in trouble w the superstition realm, but here 'goes. Wife's been using the Rover lately, and the 3 A's have been coming and going. I haven't gotten around to doing option b yet, haven't had the failure until now, and the cold keeps me from taking on repairs unless absolutely necessary these days.. So when our 4th nor'easter hit, I didn't want her to take any chances and I took back possesion. Low and behold, the uninvited guests have taken their leave! Full TC through the storm!

Just thought I'd share some praise and positivity to balance the scales a bit. Another "never let me down" example.. We need some more of these kinds of stories, I think, to keep ourselves happier "enthusiasts" instead of paranoid about what's gonna go wrong next? At least I do!
