Wife's rover found it's new home for the summer.

Cars come home Saturday, so seniority rules.

Welded broken pipe that goes into muffler (cracked all the way around) and hanger, wheeled headlight lens, lubed drive shafts, checked transfer case fluid level (full), filled with premium gas and set clock on wife's 03.

Last week, updated the stereo and added a backup camera, replaced the leather boot for the handbrake and transfer case shifter, and put >500 miles on the odometer on my first real road trip since acquiring said vehicle.

Purchased my 2003 Discovery about 8 months ago for $750 previous owner got scammed by the Rover Stealership, they told her she needed a new transmission. Long story short it sat in her driveway for about a year, randomly one day I decided to ask what was wrong with it or if it was for sale. She informed me it needed a transmission. I was immediately turned off by the idea of it needing a transmission swap. Long story short a few weeks go past, and I saw an older man trying to push it, stopped in and asked if they needed help. He informed me that he just wanted it gone "Junkyard was coming" I asked how much they where giving him for it, he said $700 still not sold on it yet, so I decided to ask if I could take a look at it, crawled under immediately to take a peak and instantly notice the front driveshaft had a TON of slop, could literally shake it about 1/2" by hand up and down. Asked if they had the keys etc. obviously the battery was dead, so I jumped it off with my Jeep. Cranked and idled on the 2nd attempt, "good sign" decided to put it in gear, and as soon as it went in gear i felt the driveshaft thunk, and knew the Stealership got them. Fast forward 24 hours, I bought it from them for $750 replaced from driveshaft for $75, drove it home. I have been daily driving it ever since, now to the point of this post in regards to the thread topic.

I woke up this morning and decided I was going to turn it into a typical Adventure Rig! So I ordered the 3" Terrafirma Lift w/ brake lines, amazon special front/rear bumpers, and winch, along with a rooftop tent. I will buy Tires later down the road as I just put new tires on it when I bought it "Yokohama Geolanders"

Everyone likes photos, so here are a few, from oldest to newest.

Installed trailer brake controller and new 7-way plug receptacle on my wife's 03. Not going to lie, this was not a fun job. Poor/aging eye sight and working under the dash is just plain painful anymore...lol.

It's not a hundred percent done, had my hand on some electrical tape at the parts store...but thought...no l have some...well...no l don't.

My favorite thing about the D2 is how confident it is in a Snow Storm.

Meanwhile... driving it on a bright sunny day scares the crap out of me thinking something will go wrong. Lol

Default Prep for short block assembly

Disassembled the engine, pulled the crank, pistons, front cover, water pump, and oil pan. Cleaned the up. Taking the crank, connecting rods, heads and used bare block to a machine shop on monday to be cleaned and inspected and begin the process of building a short block. Also wash the Disco and cleaned the engine compartment.

Stripping down the block

After cleaning

Used the 99 D2 to move a customers D2 they've had sitting at my house for nearly a year to their uncles house. I already had the U-Haul Dolly for picking up my 97 D1 XD tomorrow so I made the most of it, and got the 04 D2 outta here. I was fine with it, but the wife wasn't, and when the owner moved 5.5hr away I saw no reason for it to be parked on my land anymore. Not to many people these days will haul a D2 25 miles for FREE these days!

I'm very excited about picking up the 97 XD tomorrow. Even if it's got cancer on the body in a few spots I'm going to just enjoy it! It's a vehicle I've dreamed about owning since I was 19-20 years old and I'll finally have one! Paint isn't perfect but when I'm wheeling on tight trails that is one less thing to worry about. My wife made a joke that I should start a Go Fund Me to save the XD from rusting away lol.
