I was lucky to find mine in excellent shape with only 79000 Central Texas miles on her, so all of my mechanical headaches are still ahead of me

 

I'm from Austin, moved to Idaho 2 years ago. I've got double the miles and am going through the @Disco Mike service list.
it's been a good way for me to learn my truck and level set all the mechanical systems.

What did I do... I bought her. 2000 Disco II with 113K mi., black/black - leather / auto / seems to be in good shape, clean, and obvious 'suburban' prior owner.... only thing noticed so far is I can't shift from hi to lo range. She is being serviced by the sales team for 'prep', and then I'm picking her up and going to do the diff fluids and a few other things before I drive her home (from Massachusetts to Phoenix!)

Cleaned 4.0 block
Removed cam bearings and freeze plugs.
Still needs more cleaning...

I applaud you guys who can totally tear down an engine. I haven’t rebuilt an engine since auto mech class in high school back in ‘87.
I don’t have the space or time or tools or cojones to do that. I fear that I would bugger up something in the process and render the engine useless.

 

Ditto! As someone who attempted and failed to rebuild and replace my engine on my own, I am in awe. Well done!

Now, lots more cleaning on this block, then take the 4.6 apart, as I'm using all the 4.6 guts, and have to get the cam bearings out of it. It'll be easier if I put the cam bearings in the 4.0 block first, before assembling any of the rest of it. Those and the new freeze plugs.

 

is the 4.6 block damaged? Why use the 4.0 one?
