Did some assembly work on the 4.6. It had been sitting on the engine stand for months (bottom end done), but just couldn't find the ambition to reassemble. So, yesterday...spent a few hours on the beast. I'll drop it in today.
Very pleased with the complete gasket set from Lucky 8. All gaskets seemed quality made, every gasket l needed and fitment was correct. Granted, l did use a set of Erling headgaskets l had laying around from a project that never came to pass. It was like Christmas morning, opening all the packages l'd been ordering and throwing on the work bench...found a set of Dll brake pads, 180 thermostat that had been ordered for the old gray 03...lol.
Funny story...l'm doing the final 90° torque on the head bolts and hear a loud snap on the first one...l'm like...oh chit that's not good (thinking l snapped a head bolt). But, fortunately, or unfortunately depending on your prespective...it was my 1/2 breaker bar that snapped on one side of the swivel pin. Kind of a pisser, l'm sure the next craftsman one will be much poorer in quality than this old beauty...she's served me well for forty some years. Although it was broke, was still able to torque the final bolts.
Dll unrelated...
Pistons, rings and bearings arrived yesterday for the Defender from Turner Engineering (five days from England...outstanding) and rest of parts from Rovers North (fuel pump and other odds and ends)...so maybe...by the time this "shelter in place" ordeal is over...l'll have both of these things running and hoods back on and closed for a while.
Hope everyone is enjoying their time off from work and making the best of a bad situation.
Brian.

Looking good Brian. It sure is nice having time at home. Can’t believe how much I’m getting done. I even started rebuilding my 36year old big red. Frame up resto. Lol
today is beautiful out. Well better than it has been. So I’ll do some wiring on the green bastard’s rear bumper winch and trailer plug

Productive day, but failed to finish it up today..."l ain't as good as l once was"...lol. Couple snafus...mounted exhaust manifolds (which l wasn't going to do this until dropped in, but changed my mind) and drivers side had to come back off to install motor mount bracket upper bolt, then went to plug the crank sensor in and the clip that locks the two plugs together was broken...so, l had to get very creative with three zip-ties, in an area that offered very little room, and secure the connection. Plus, spent quite a bit of time cleaning up the wiring harness and retaping.
Hopefully, l'll get her started tomorrow. Suppose to be a little cooler though, so we will see.
All that is left...y-pipe/connect 02's, driveshaft, radiator hoses/mount coolant reservior, idler/tensioner pulleys/belt/fan, add oil/filter, hook the battery up and throw the hood on...then twist the key with fingers crossed.
Richard, good luck with the three wheeler. Surprised you are going through it, they are illegal to ride here (on state/public land and by minors - but adults can ride them on private property). Yep, we've had a couple nice days...but tomorrows looking to be a bit cooler.
Brian.
P.S. Have l ever mentioned how much l hate SAI engines...the f'n system is a joke and a bas*ard to assemble!!!
