nothing new. Just stared at it on the street and that's where she'll sit until I replace the trans cooler lines. Not sure to go with a used set or build my own...can't make up my mind..
Almost crashed it this morning hitting a huge patch of water in the street that had to be about a foot deep at 40mph. The street it was on just got redone recently and is basically black so I couldn't see the water from the heavy rain in the early morning until it was too late. Hit HARD. Engine bogged for a sec and the check engine light started flashing for multiple misfire codes. I got worried for a minute thinking I had gotten water in the intake or something... but in the end it was fine. I cleared the codes and continued on as normal no trouble at all. I should probably take a look under the hood to make sure everything is still there though lol.
Over the last two days, I installed two new rear wheel bearings and dropped the rear differential to remove and install a new gasket using RTV. I’m crossing my fingers that the new gasket solved my slow rear diff leak. Now I’m waiting for new TF shocks/springs, brake pads, and flex rubber coupling to arrive from AB for another project next weekend.
I’m also going to swap my shock towers. My OEM shock towers are separating and I got pretty lucky finding some used OEM shock towers in near excellent condition on eBay for $50.
Learned a lot installing them. Went a lot faster (2 hours) than i thought it would take. I only faced one issue - one of the wheels had seized up on the rotor.
everything else went smooth - rust penetrating spray is a wonderful tool
I went for the cheapest Japanese rotors and brakes.i paid $160 for the whole set of 4 and it included the 12 mm short and long socketDriving 1500 miles PER YEAR probably will make them last some.
watched the Atlantic British video twice and had it on standby just in case
After a casual couple of months of work, this morning I was able to drive the '03 Disco around the block a few times, checking out not only the high and low ranges but also the locked and unlocked functions in the '99 transfer case that I transplanted from the derelict truck that lurks in the driveway. True, I was using vise-grips to shift the transmission and various other sets of locking pliers to change ranges, and I can look through the floor to see hunks of spinning metal and the road going by underneath but hey, proof of concept.
Replaced the transfer case oil with BG 75w140. The clunk when I hit the gas while the truck is coasting is gone, and it feels like everything is a little... tighter? In a good way.
After some trail driving last weekend, had an intermittent SRS light on the dash. Under the driver and passenger seats, I removed the yellow SRS relays and used CRC electrical contact cleaner to clean them up. Also shot some into the front seat belt latches. Good to go now!
