Pulled out the Nanocom for a SES light and found a generic P1000 code...

You probably already know this, but for the benefit of others I'll say that you can simulate having CDL in your non-CDL D2 by simply easing into the emergency brake as you add power when your rear wheels are slipping.

There are lots of videos on youtube where the Disco driver gives up on a hill and backs down because his rear wheels were slipping, taking all of the power away from the front wheels, and they inevitably make me shout at the screen to yank the dang e-brake, idiot!

So much of off-roading is all about the driver knowing what to do instead of the vehicle being all-capable.

For example, if you are stuck in loose beach sand, you can dig out a bit by hand, lower your tire pressure, and put your floor mats under/in-front of your wheels to drive out.

If you are stuck in deep mud you can strap a short wood 2x4 on top of one tire (or 2 or 3 or 4!) and you'll move forward by 2 to 4 inches with each revolution of that wheel.

If you have a winch and get stuck in the desert (Baja race, anyone?!) then you need a sand anchor (no useful trees there!) to attach your winch hook to something that won't move when you turn on the winch.

Took the Disco for a drive today. No lights on the dash! It was amazing... I love driving the D2. I love the LR3, but it’s just something about the D2. It’s definitely not the fastest thing out there, but it just keeps driving.

Took the wife's Dll for a day trip ride, coming home, started getting low on fuel, stop twice, but can't get my darn debt card to work, "see attendent", forget that, no time for that...lol. So, get to the station about a mile from the house, with fumes to spare, wife's like..."what if your card doesn't work here?" I say, "third time is always a charm". Sure enough, pump turned on and filled her up. Jump back in, turn the key, she fires right up...go to put it in gear...and the shifter won't move! Wife's like..."great, we may still be walking." Me, grab the shifter ****, hank it off, pop the shifter indicator cover off, push the solenoid button in...and away we go. Pull in the drive and have my wife check brake lights...none.

Home sweet home.



So, looks like it's time to order a brake light switch...and a idler pulley/tensioner set, had a slight idler pulley noise also. Other than that, the old girl ticked off the miles with ease.

Nice stances. Makes me want to add the extra set of 1" lift spacers to my wife's Dll. Just put Cooper Evolution Winter tires on, 265/60R18...so no tire cover anymore too.

On my '01 D2, I had to get a new plastic t-joint for my bleeder valve. The original snapped right at the head, and I could not remove the remaining part of the plastic screw. Even drilled a hole and epoxied a small dowel would not move it. The local dealer had a few extra bleeder screws so I ordered 2 (very cheap) hoping that the bad screw would come out. Eventually ordered a new radiator top hose arrangement from Uro Parts. With the new part installed, I have 3 spare hoses and clips. Mental note. Do not start the engine with the bleeder valve NOT installed.

Having fun on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.

I was out yesterday working to get the wife's disco to pass emissions - had my head on the passenger side, under the hood and noticed a very faint tick, tick, tick. Engine wasn't even running Truck hadn't been run in a day - cold as ice - but there's a tick. Sounds like somebody dropped their watch in there somewhere. Took me a little while but I found it. The relay in the fuse box for the ABS. Weird. Had to go and pop the hood on my Disco . . . . yup it was doing the same thing. Anyone else notice this? Why the heck?!?!?
