Drove to the mountains last saturday - snowing heavily - notice the inside my driver's side head light is cloudy from condensation - noticed it also when I went to a touchless carwash while traveling this winter (it was about 20 degrees) I usually wash it by hand but not an option then - guess the seal is bad - pulled one in excellent condition from a '98 at the local breaker yard (new ones are $250) quick install and my lights are back in order

The roads around here are starting to open from the winter closure. Local 4x4 club did a bring your own breakfast last weekend up in the Cache National Forest. We've got about 4 Land Rovers in the group.

This past weekend I led Northern California Land Rover Club's trip to Shuteye Peak! @evil_goat was able to join us and show that his stock D2 could do 95% of what my built up rig could do. There was only about 300ft section we decided to not push just for the sake of body damage.

Despite it being May, there was still plenty of snow and quite a few fallen trees we had to cut/move. While the weather looks gloomy, it was quite peaceful and gave the trip an eerie vibe (which I like personally)

Parked it under a cliff for a picture.

Back up and running after a melted parking brake cable and engine ground issue.

Improved on my personal best HG removal time, 3.5 hrs. I was shooting for two but SAI tubing slowed things down.

Uwharrie Safari this year, decided to pull the rear end to see if I could figure out why the locker wasn't staying engaged. Worked good on the bench so I threw it back in - never got to test it over the weekend. I did however find seriously twisted axle shafts. Check out the forging line going down the shaft - that's supposed to be straight with the shaft, not curled around it. Threw in my spares and threw those in the toolbox. HD shafts are going to have to be on the docket.

Had a blast at Safari. Saw a couple old faces from the forum here and met a couple of new ones - a pleasure as always. Oh, and a friend brought me this SWEET print of my D2 they took at a previous Safari.

took both the LR4 and the D2 to the farm over the holiday weekend. while out driving the property with two of my daughters and granddaughter managed to get stuck in a rather wet and muddy section. my own fault. i knew it was wet in the upper field and didn't even think about it until the tires started spinning and and the mud starting flying. i managed to bury the tires almost half way. thought i was going to need to walk back and get the John Deere but decided against that as i was worried that would end up sunk as well. on a positive note, i did get to finally use the winch. between that and a shovel was able to get unstuck. the only available winch point was roughly at the 9:30 position. but, the grout was soft enough that pulling the d2 sideways wasn't an issue. my three and a half year old granddaughter loved telling the rest of the family how pops got stuck in the mud.

I'm not on FB, but would be interested to meet others. Where are these meetups?
