Just finished a 3 week long trip to move across the country from California to Virginia. I had no major issues. Only thing that happened was the remflex exhaust gasket blew and I popped a tire on a sharp rock. Luckily I had spares for both. I spent every night camping in my rooftop tent in national parks or forests. I visited Death Valley, the Mojave Desert, Grand canyon, the 5 Utah parks and countless more places. My stock disco did great driving on sand, through rivers, and on the rocky trails of moab. It was my first time seeing the desert landscape of the US and I loved it!
Now that I am on the east coast by Northern Virginia, are there any rover clubs with events I can join? I was previously a member of the Northern California Land Rover club.
Welcome to VA, we moved back from CO to VA last fall. There is a strong rover group across the state that puts on Rovers at Wintergreen (in a few weeks) and Mid Atlantic Rover Rally (in oct I believe).
Yep, great club scene in VA. Check our ROAV facebook page. As Whowa004 mentions there is the RAW event at Wintegreen ski resort (my fav - mountain views - rocks). and MAR down by the James River in the fall. Additonally, check our Uwarrhie down in NC, couple events a year. Also lots of trails up near the blue ridge that are open to the public, join some of the VA offroad groups and you can travel out any time of year.
Finally wrapped up the 4.6 swap into our green 99 and redid the retrofit projector facelift lights with the better sized projectors. Moved the crower cam and lifters over from the 4.0 that needed hgs after only 15-20k from the last go around. Have a couple of exhaust leaks to track down between muffler and downpipe and then muffler section to rear bit, have a new gasket for that one. Just aroudn the property the 4.6 is so far very much more powerful than the 4.0. Excited to get it out on the road this weekend.
