Default Thoughts for a new motor

Hello and good evening gents, so as of now my LR has 187000 miles on it, HG have been replaced awhile back. I plan on adding more mods and aftermarket parts to my Disco so I can do a cross country sort of vacation. While I'm not to overly confident in the original engine holding up, I will be acquiring a fair bit of money and I've been doing research and reading what others have done to their disco's. I don't have a shop or the experience to an LS swap so I was wondering if anyone has an alternative to another newer or rebuilt engines. I know Atlantic British sells them but I'm not sure how well they perform, like I haven't seen or heard any reviews on the 4.0 motors. If anyone else knows where I might be able to another motor that would be much appreciated!

If you're replacing your motor with a new stock replacement, there's no reason not to go with a 4.6 motor. It's a bolt in replacement, no changes necessary. There in lies the reason you see no reviews on the 4.0s; nobody buys them.

Even with the notorious slipped liners and thinner cylinder walls on the 4.6? I realize it's a new motor or reman, I just don't want to go thru the hassle of doing some more work due to the fact.

Why would the cylinder walls be thinner when the difference lies in the stroke?

The bore is the same on 4.0 and 4.6, stroke creates difference in cubic inches.

Me, I'd take the 4.0 over the 4.6 any day of the week. Tooling was being overlooked at the factory in the later years of the Dll...getting by with what they had...so to speak. Overheated my 4.0 twice, pretty hard, and she was fine.

What exactly did you do to get it running again? I'm having overheating issues again and it's really aggravating me.

My 4.0 was overheating when I bought it. I replaced the water pump, thermostat, radiator, and installed 2 electric fans.
I'll be building a new engine for it soon. I plan on building a 4.6, by using my block and a 4.6 crank and rods.

So you didn't change the head gasket and machine the heads? I did everything you did minus dual fans which I'm getting to that.

I started with the easiest stuff first working toward the more time consuming. I didn't need to do the heads. My transmission was contributing to the heat through the heat exchanger in the radiator, but that was only when towing. The fans were done because I accidentally broke my mechanical fan doing a belt change, but I love them and they free up power.
