D1 Power Steering Leak and Trans-X
Leaky D1 steering system, 198,000, shade tree lazy owner. Had been adding Lucas transmission fix (thick, red, and cheap) weekly to power steering (newbies - it IS ATF fluid in there). Recently bought a 92 Mercedes station wagon with 239 K that was shifting "stiff." Used a half a can of CRC Trans-X and shifting improved in five miles.
So I had some left to put in "Frankenstein", my offspring's D1 (brought back to life with parts from the dead ones). Right in the fill marked ZF on the driver side. Did not pour in much. After two weeks of normal college commute and weekly fluid check has not dropped. I may get real brave and steam off some of the normal sludge around the steering box.
Now mechanic in a jar will not fix everything, every time, under every condition. But it may last longer than you think.
Full disclosure: I love snake oil. It is a dream made from liquid lottery tickets.
