It is not desired to spin "freewheel". It is good to feel like peanut butter inside, maybe spin 1/4 turn when released and engine cold. Locked up clutch increases wear on water pump. If there is no appreciable traffic stops on way to work you could remove fan, when moving at 45 mph the outside air is doing 90% of the cooling. The risk of things coming apart at high rpm, and eating radiator and hood, is there with the fan in place. Might be time to collect on a favor from a pal.

Thanks Savannah Buzz for the help. Easy R&R of the fan clutch, and I'm up and running.
