I scrubbed the head area out with Chem-tool and took the valley out completely and cleaned it up. I will change the oil before starting it Tom.

Thank you Sir! That means your oil pump is a crank driven gear-rotor......dang. (Remember that for later RF!)

I was hoping to spin your oil pump if it was cam driven off the dizzy gear. It's how you oil prime a fresh rebuild but my idea was just using Chemtool in the pan. That would've nailed allot of the internal oil passageways of carbon.

There is a metal outlet on the driver side rocker cover, that looks like a vacuum port but has nothing going to it. I have scowered over the Rave manual specific to the rocker cover and what I find is "PVC intake filter" on page 111 of the RAVE 95 manual. Mine looks like a metal tube that a hose would attach to but nothing is there. Is there something missing that should be there?

That's an air inlet for the crankcase vapors (emissions system), supposed to have a small air filter on it. ERC3209 I believe.

Does the metal valley gasket need to be replaced? I read on here it does not... Does it need to have RTV around the water ports on both side, one side, the front and back or none at all?

Also does the clamps at the front and back that hold the metal valley gasket down need rtv under the gasket and in between the gasket and the clamp?

unless you want oil splashing all over the bottom of your intake it needs to go back.
yes to RTV around the water ports, and yes to the corner front and rear where the intake is going to rest. iirc

I just read about 50 posting online and it seems to be a general consensus to use a thin coat of black RTV around the ports and on both side of the valley gasket.
