I have the same always lit D and no command shift issue as Geo and purchased a new gear shift unit with attached cable. My question is how do you disengage the beige plastic gland on the cable? Is there a bolt that goes through the hole or is it just snapped in? Are the tabs meant to twist it for disengagement? Thanks!

Here is some additional background on my problem in case it helps others.. my issue is sporadic with the transmission working fine one day then not the next. Following catman's excellent description from 2016 I also found corrosion on the bottom 4 contacts although no other obvious signs of spillage or water ingress in the console. I tried cleaning the pins and contacts and even sourced new contacts and replaced the bottom 6 on the cable side but my symptoms stayed the same.

Here are some pictures of the cable and gland currently mounted in the LR3 and a backside view of the new gland.

Default Shifter connector removal

Having trouble getting the connector off the back of the shift selector on my 06 lr3. Trying to clean up some corrosion. Any chance of a slightly more detailed description of its removal than above. Where is the tab located in relation to the connector and which direction do I "swing" it to get it out? Can't for the life of me figure it out. My fat hands don't help.
