Default Labor charge??

If you have a set of pruners or a sharp knife, you don't need to pay anyone. Just cut the old ****** off and push the new one on. Done and done.

Well that is true but when the temps are in the negatives, it is not so much fun plus sometimes the plastic can shatter rather than slice.
I am also a softie; my 3 is a grocery getter per the jpg attached so it has to go or I get hungry. I was going to get groceries the day I took the picture.
I note that the existing is best cut off at a 45 degree angle facing the rear for some reason per the second jpg in the bottom right corner.

The odometer just turned over 400,000 km last week; hopefully lots of trips to the grocery store yet in it.

I'll take a peek tomorrow, don't recall seeing that device...

Default Blow thru both the cut off old one and the replacement.

Below is what the factory installed breather looks like - just a cap on the end of a length of tubing.
When I cut the original off, I tried to blow thru it and it was not easy.
Also blow thru the new one before you install it and see if there is a the difference; I expect there will be.

Today I took the 8 cyl 05 LR3 SE out for a romp in some snow and as we were climbing a forest road, the battery light came on. Turned around, got to the highway, and drove about 10 miles when the holiday season kicked in on my dash with all sorts of lights and not long after I stopped on the shoulder, all power was lost. Got a tow home (40 miles) which was interesting since I couldn't get it out of park with no juice, so the tow operator used skids to drag it onto the flatbed. Pretty sure my alternator is shot because I smelled burning electric stuff in the front when I popped the hood. Any recommendations regarding replacements? Ditto for batteries if I end up needing to replace it too.
Thanks!

I find that RockAuto.com has the OEM Denso rebuilt alternators and starter motors which for me are really good prices, batteries are a more personal matter, lots to choose from. My latest battery is a Worldsource 940 CCA which was pricey, but we'll see how it performs in our pretty cold winter. Am sure others will chime in...

That's probably a good LR3 you found....the mod being there tells me that the PO knew some stuff about the LR3. That TSB was so uncommon that my local dealer didn't know about it. I had to print out a PDF of it and bring it in. So that is one thing I always look for when checking out an LR3 for sale. Hardly ever find it installed.

Yes, I was lucky in many ways regarding this machine...

Thanks! I took the plunge for a new OEM Denso and replacement battery was free due to warranty. The new alternator is not here yet but I got the bad one out. The video at this link was really helpful:
The only thing I would add is that I found it MUCH easier to get at the innermost bolt and the plug connector after taking off the large, inner splash guard. Getting that removed isn't too bad and does not require completely removing the wheel arch trim if you flex the splash guard as you pull it out.
