Default lr4 restricted performance

Good evening everybody. I know the restricted performance light has been discussed on here plenty and i think Ive read all the threads but dont see one that covers what im dealing with.

Ive got 2011 LR4 with 156803 miles on it.

My wife is the primary driver. According to her, the restricted performance light accompanied by the yellow triangle as been going on and off for a few months but coming on more frequently recently. Sometimes she'll also get a check engine. I dont think she's ever actually noticed "restricted performance" because she putts around town and prob rarely does above 35mph.

I drove it to work today. RP/CEL light came on during my commute. I guess it went into what you guys call limp mode but the light went off shortly after and all the power came back.

Checked codes when i got to work and pulled P0087 - Fuel rail system pressure too low. Cleared and drove. Everything was good. Got in it a couple hours later. P0087 is back. RP light came on and went off.

Reading this forum, Ive seen a lot of people recommend BG44 fuel system cleaner. Seems like that would be the cheapest route so Ill try that first. Ive also read people recommend changing the fuel filter. Considering i've NEVER done that in the 5 years ive owned the vehicle, that would probably be good too. I assumed the filter was in the tank because i cant really find any information on it when i google it. Can someone point me in the right direction with that? I called the dealership and the parts guy recommended the fuel pressure sensor. He said there were 2. And of course i guess it could always be the fuel pump.

Ive also seen online that the RP light could be from a dirty MAP sensor. Would that throw its own code?

Im sorry this post is all over the place. I just need a starting point and hopefully some clarification on the fuel filter. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

marc

Default Same issue.. any luck figuring yours out?

I've got almost the exact same thing happening to me. 2011 LR4 .. replaced a few things and tried others, still haven't been able to figure out the root cause. Did you have any luck figuring yours out? Thanks in advance for any input

The way to test this would be to plumb in a manual fuel gauge at the junction in front of fuel tank. You should have close to 100 PSI key on and around 70 while running. There is also a fuel pump model in the interior driver side rear side panel. Only way to test that is with a scope.

If you want to throw a part at it I would suggest the fuel pressure sensor under a heat shield, passenger side trans bell housing. If that doesn't work, you can change the sensor on the fuel rail.

I have also seen vehicles that skip fuel pump cam timing and show this code. You would need to lock the timing of the motor and remove the vacuum pump to confirm.

Good luck.
