Interestingly, to the naked eye it doesn't seem so bad @35k miles. Borescope camera makes it look a lot worse (I'll post pictures shortly).
I hope to take another swing at it over the weekend.
Did you attempt to clean any from only removing the intake hose? Did it appear to stick at all, when you open and close manually?

Thanks for the pictures!

@gmfain Since you've had better luck with LR parts; any suggestions on where to find an OE throttle body LR078546?
The JLR branded one is quite expensive.
Pie-in-the-sky thought was to have a clean spare one, so I can replace it fairly quickly and take my time cleaning the old one.
(totally possible I'm way over-thinking this)

I would just clean it. Buy one when it fails. IMO

The genuine Land Rover throttle body (LR078546) is available from different sources for ~$550 plus a $91 core charge. If I needed one right away, I'd consider taking a chance with Chinese knock off from Amazon for around $360 (and no core charge). If the Chinese version failed, I would buy a new one from my local Land Rover parts department and hand them the Chinese knock-off instead of paying the core charge.

Fixed my bent in bull bar. I bent it in, up against plastic on the trail in Uwharrie.

The throttle body cleaning wasn't too difficult. It had a decent amount of build-up at 35K miles.
  • I soaked the internals with carb cleaner in the first round
  • followed up with brake cleaner
  • used old toothbrushes and rags to scrub out the tenacious soot
  • gave an hour in the sun to dry out the throttle body before re-install.
Please remember to remove the MAP sensor before you start spraying, I nearly forgot that it can be damaged by the brake cleaner.

My main worry was needing to re-adapt the throttle body after the reinstall, but thankfully the motor didn't skip a beat.
Things were messy so I didn't get a chance to take pictures after the cleanup, but the results were satisfactory. I can see myself cleaning this every 20-30K.

Interestingly, the back of the butterfly valve had quite a bit of build-up, something I can easily see causing the valve to clog.
Fortunately, it was very easy to cleanup with a toothbrush.

Perhaps, I will try the Heisenberg hack from Christian in the future, but it's not super necessary imo.

Great job!

As soon as I get mine back from the shop, plan on cleaning mine!

The dealer is evaluating my oil sensor with my extended warranty folks. Also an unknown oil leak.

Dropped it Friday. Hopefully mid week will have a decision.
