You got the factor55 fairlead? Is there something special about it? They said you need it to not have to perform extra cuts on the bumper... I'm guessing that it's just not as tall as most? I was just going to machine down a generic one... but depending on the package they come up with for me, I may just get it.
I got the factor55 fairlead, to me it looks alot thicker than most. I have got to the install part yet..... But I'm like you, I was going to make my own. I'm a toolmaker. Let me dig up a picture of my friends rig, so you'll have an idea what it looks like.

Default Grinding off the brake for the compomotive wheel

Looks like i have the same brake calipers as you (2017 hse lux, gas though)
Have you had any problems with the brakes after grinding the tops off a bit? I'm planning on towing down some big hills so I'm a little cautious before messing with brakes. Apparently the tuffant wheels should work but they're out of stock till November

No, not at all. It is very thick still in that area, engineering overkill.
I've gone 8K, no problems whatsoever.

Ok, with Friday fast approaching.... I've been searching and contemplating, my second try on the install.

1. I want to make the cuts on the Bumper Core support, without taking it off. ( I have learned that taking it off entails removing the headlamp assemblies and a lot of the front cradle, to be able to remove the vertical bolts on the bumper core support. Lucky8 instruction do not mention this, I saw it in first install attempt) plan is 4.5" right angle grinder with cut off wheel and a straight air grinder with cut off wheel, saws all as plan C...LOL

2. Mine is the diesel version, so when I test fit the mount that had the wrong center distance (try1), I noticed the coolant line is going to be swashed. On the gas versons it is long enough to go under the mount. In my TD6 version, it will not reach under and back to the connector.
So I believe I will be forced to either notch the mount, to route it in normal way......OR...... slice into hose/get a longer hose.??? I am talking to my mechanic Thursday. get his take on it.

So, any input from anyone that might have installed on the TD6 engine would be greatly appreciated.

Is the coolant hose not easy to replace? I would just go to Napa and get a longer hose cut if there are no special fittings on the ends.

It would also be very easy to cut the hose and add one or two stints to lengthen it wouldn’t it?

Ok, like most of you, we research and scour the interweb to find information. I saw that Lucky8 had the hidden winch mount, But I also saw they never installed it on a diesel D5 too. That kinda worried me, but shipping from UK and Australia was just not an option with covid-19. So with that said here is my install. I did it alone, but a helper would be helpful. I give it a 8 of 10 difficulty. Here are some items you must have imo: 2 jack stand capable of the D5 weight, impact wrench, at least 12 inch long 1/4 drive extension, also 3/8 10 inch extension, 1/4 and 3/8 wiggler, or universal joint, 4 1/2 inch electric grinder w/ pack of cut off disk, of course an assortment of sockets, metric.

A recap from try 1, jack up, remove wheels, remove recovery loop cover, 4 clips, remove small lower plastic molding, both sides, remove inner fender halves both sides, pop loose outer fender edge molding, only half way to clear front clip, left side unplug two electrical connectors, right side unplug wiper washer hoses, I used a hose tool to stop washer fluid leaking, .......no there are 3 10mm bolts holding the edge of the front clip on each side, remove them, take note the is a location post you will need to pull free so the front clip will release once all the other bolts are removed......remove grill, remove 4 screws on top of clip and 4 torx on bottom of clip. remove the front clip...... there is a few other plastic items to remove..... refer back to try 1....

Refer to my earlier post to get to this point.

You need to remove the headlights in order to get the bumper core support removed.

right side, two top bolts for core support

left side, two top bolts for core support

Cut Bumper core support.

Cut Bumper core support.

Ok, here is where Lucky8 failed. The mounting plate for the SD6 should not be sold for the diesel, it will squash the auxiliary coolant hose.

Winch mounted

Once again, Lucky8 needed to have a SD6 and A TD6 to see the difference in the installations. The radar array is mounted on the outside for the SD6 and on my TD6 it was on the inside. I had to remount.

radar wiring and winch wiring

Here is the plastic bits installed and winch rope on. Then the last problem came up.

I test fit the nose, and look at the mounting holes for the fair-lead. So I had to cut those vertical bits, and about 1 inch on the lower horizontal bit.

And there it is... Why did I go with the free hook from Warn, and not a $250 hook???? Its a hook, I've been wheeling for 30 years, the free hook hasn't changed in that time...LOL

Feel free to ask me anything, I'll share everything I have. Good luck!

This is looking great, and sorry for all of the troubles! I agree, there should be a diesel version. Let us know if there are any issues after the fact. I’d like to know how the radar is impacted, if any.

The slider pictured looks identical to the one that was a perfect fit (left side) for my D5, so the LR4 must have a rocker panel design similar to the D5.
