2003 SE just found
Had this one drop in my lap. Problem is a KNOCK in the engine. It is at idle and more under load. Guess is a rod knock but car pulls well and runs well.
Train of thought
1. Check the compression and do a leak down
2. Drop oil and look for metal in it, Have a filter cutter.
3. If metal drop pan and HOPE.
Low odds
1. Lifter (to loud I think)
2. Loose nut behind the wheel 95% probable.
So far it is LOW on oil about 2 quarts.
NO SMOKE at all
No Oil leaks (British no oil under no oil in)
Starts, idle is smooth
Any ides would help.
Do have a spare D1, 1995 motor that has 65,000 miles so that is an option.

With no white smoke OR overheating problem did not think of that one.

Found out the front main is the knock knock.
Got new bearings on way will try to "SLIP" them in with out pulling the engine. Up on my lift now. Will not get to it till Friday.
Any thoughts?

Thank You for the reply
I've got a very minor knock at idle and under light load, but seems to go away when I get on it. Maybe I can't hear it because of the exhaust.
Anyway, I might be doing the same some time soon.
