The voltage reading sounds right, but I'm still betting on battery.

Let's see what others think.

Oh, like I said... It's probably not the battery.

Jk, I have only ever seen this problem with a voltage issue. Did the car sit for any long amount of time without running?

Can you turn the battery in under manufacturers warranty for a new one? What brand is it?

It could also be your charging system, but I feel like you would have problems starting the car after repeatedly driving.

My last guess is a faulty electrical connector which is not giving enough voltage to the trans electricals.

I highly doubt you need a new trans though.

hmmm, I stopped by a transmission shop and they were knowledgable about the xyz switch and said they would test everything. I haven't made an appt. yet but this problem is happening at least daily. I'll ask them if they also handle items out of scope of transmissions. I will have to look at battery in the morning. Like I said, I've only had my Disco for about a month. I've been under the hood probably 100 times in the last 30 days :-/

I don't think it's the XYZ switch. There are other electrical connections on the trans.

As I understand it the XYZ switch tell the the computer what gear you have physically shifted into(PRD321). As far as the function of the transmission, that is controlled by a transmission ECU.

Someone on here has to have an alternate suggestion.

Yes, I have a mode button too. But it's more than just m & s lights flashing, it doesn't accelerate and I have to move it to p or n and turn off and restart while people are behind me. I'm going to go check the battery and probably replace it. I do believe it sat for a long time. It was a 3rd car for a retired couple.
