Do what do you have to do to prep for the plastidip?

Just a deep clean, get any residue off the surface. NO SANDING!

Super clean, dry, warmish temperature, good to go.

looks good. i've got the same wheels and have been wanting to go black, but can't justify spending $85 per rim for the powder coating. doesn't that plasti-dip stuff just peel off? i saw some wheels painted with plasti-dip at Pep Boys and they didn't look so hot (maybe customers were peeling at it). i'd just hate to go through all that effort and have them looking like crap after a short while (again, right now they look great). i guess i could ask what effort was involved... did you take the wheels off or just tape around the tires and did you have to (is it recommended) to lightly sand the wheels prior to? i just don't (obviously) know much about plasti-dip.

I've never had any luck with any paint staying on wheels for very long before starting to peel or flake in places...and that's with major prep work. That's why I was thinking of trying blasting and powdercoating these. I've never tried plasticoat on wheels. I do think the plasticoated wheels in the pic above look good though.

This is my first time doing it. A friend did his Heep wheels and he had to power-wash it off after 1 year. For prep, I cleaned the wheels with Super Clean rinsed them, let then dry. I sprayed them off the DII. I did not tape anything. I wire brushed the tires to get off the over spray.
For the arches, I just sprayed them and then rubbed/peeled off the over spray. I also did the LAND ROVER on the hood. I taped a rectangle with painters tape around it sprayed it and then rubbed/peeled off the overspray. I also used a plastic razor blade to get clean up around the letters.

I still need to do the spare and the DISCOVERY and V8 on the rear door.

Default Power Steering refresh

New power steering pump and lines went in the truck today. So I will finally get to drive my Rover since getting a new set of shoes. Ready for some off roading as soon as I can.

I had a busy week.

-rebuilt the the rear drive shaft
-Swapped out my L8 front drive shaft and now my shaft's a woody
-Rebuilt the brake calipers
-installed Goodridge SS extended brake lines
-installed Akebono Euro ceramic pads (front and rear).

Almost all of the caliper piston seals were torn and mud and sand had got in and caused havoc. I found that my RF and LR brakes were dragging really bad and more then likely were the cause of my low MPG and power loss. I'll fill up the tank and see if it made any difference. The truck really seems to stop great now with the new pads and SS lines. I can't wait for the pads to bed-in so I can fell there true power.

And on a side note, I started another project I've been dreaming up for the last year. I won't give away to many of the details as I'm keeping many of the details under wraps and hoping for one big unveiling when it's finished. I will give you the project code name "Aqua Rover" and tell you it will be land rover themed to match my Disco, look nothing like it does now, and let your imagination run wild from there.
