Yesterday changed the belt as the old one was like this
And changed the front (35mm) sway bar bushes as the old ones looked like this
For now I went with stock type rubber bushes, but am going to order the polys. Just need to dig out the correct part number for the rear bushes. 2003 td5 with ace and air to coil mod done in the rear.
The general feeling on the P38 forum I frequent is to only use the original rubber bushes, not the poly, though I haven’t tried poly bushes myself. Also Disco requirements might be different than Range Rover.
Poly bushes are noisier and don't last as long. Rubber is the way to go no matter the vehicle, unless it is going to become a regular service item that is replaced (relatively) often.
Installed full Magnaflow Exhaust & Changed Rear Shocks
I've wanted the Magnaflow exhaust system for the longest and finally got it all installed today (magnaflow cats were installed a month ago). It sounds great and gives it a little more pep (though not much...). I also installed rear shocks (ome turbos) today. I'm gonna upgrade the rest of the suspension system when the rest of the parts come in (ome heavy duty springs and turbo shocks).
I can't believe I didn't change the shocks sooner. The rears were completely shot and compress completely with no recoil at all.
I'm starting to feel like a kid who's hiding a cracked egg in his drawer, going on about how much fun it will be when it hatches out and grows up to be a chicken.....one thing after another with the damn thing.
Replaced the radiator, did the inline thermostat, still getting warm at idle so replaced the fan clutch and now it idles at 167 but....it then still dies at random after replacing the CPS and now the fuel pump and what a adventure that was. The cavity under the hatch over the pump was chock full of acorns and sand. So once I got that going it will run for 10, 15, 5, 3 10 pick a number of minutes before dying. So I got the idea to swap some relays around and found that the relay box is chock full of liquid, probably from an explosion of coolant from the expansion tank while I was working out the probelem with the bad from the box black thermostat. I sprayed some electronic contact cleaner in it and closed the hood.
Sooooo I have been getting codes for low voltage, camshaft position sensor, O2 sensors, and had thought maybe I'd overcranked the battery. Now I'm thinking I have a problem with that relay box. One of the relays has been buzzing with the engine off.
Any ways, I've been turning that egg over, keeping it warm, keeping it safe so mom doesn't find it and it still hasn't hatched out. Guess I'll keep at it!
