custom drive shafts you say?

today I drove around in limp mode while religiously checking the (nonexistent) tracking on the xyz alignment tool I ordered.

But at least she’s clean

So there I was driving in traffic, went to change gear in my TD5, clutch pedal to the floor, so stopped the car into 1st, let the traffic pull away, start the engine in first, pull into neutral , then reve up into second them third, a slow drive the 15 miles home, so master cylinder out slave cylinder out, and both stripped, looks like the spring Broke in the master cylinder and deformed the cup seal but kits don’t come with springs so need a new one , so to be safe ordered master and slave , well 22 years old now and 152000 on the clock, so I can’t complain, and I still got home, new parts already orderd and hope fully on thier way

just did a 1,700+ mile trip in my lifted '04. pushed the odometer over 200,000 in one of my many jaunts from our hotel in Charleston to Folly Beach. now only one of the four Rovers is under the 200,000 mark. and it has the roughest exterior of them all.

truck ran flawlessly the entire time. a well-sorted Discovery with Cruise Control for the long empty spaces and a 4.6 for passing is a joy to drive on the freeway. not as nice as the P38. but, still fun.

on the way back home to the Midwest we did a little detour through the Smoky Mountains. beautiful place in the spring and because it was midweek there was little other traffic.

did use 2nd gear quite a bit driving up and down the mountain switchbacks.

while Smoky Mountain National Park is beautiful and at times in the misty fog, a bit otherworldly, i'm pretty sure that Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge are proof of the theological concept of Hell.
perhaps a bit on the nose, but there seems to be a metaphor somewhere in our descent from the heavenly heights of the Smokies to the depths of corporate kitsch and crass caricature of Appalachian Mountain culture of those two towns that pander to the nostalgia for a past that never was.

averaged 14+ mpg over the course of the entire trip driving 80-85 mph with the A/C on. i know this doesn't sound great but with a 2" lift, 31" tires, a steel front bumper, two adults, two kids and all our luggage, i'm pretty happy. i guess i'll treat the Rover to an oil, oil filter and air filter change this coming weekend.

80-85, holy cow! No wonder you only got 14. As aerodynamic as a barn and you flogged it to 85! Braver than I....

yeah. a little fast for these bricks. that seems to be the sweet spot for this engine. i do have the stage 2 Crower Cam in there.

and with the new Scorpion ATs it was a smooth 80 mpg. no vibrations like my BFG KO2s always gave me.

i keep telling myself to cruise at 65-70 mph and then check the mpg. it's just that when i get out on the road i can't seem to do it.

Default Out with the old, in with the new

Swapped the Oem front radius arms for the 6 degree castor corrected arms from Adrenaline 4x4.
Sitting on about 4.5" of lift.
Poly bushings in the new arms.
Not as bad a job as I imagined. Under 2 hours taking my sweet time.

Also started to hunt down this leak making a mess under here.
I dont lose any real amount fluids between oil changes etc.
But damn it looks ugly.

Default Leak

Let me know what you find. The steering arm, pitman arm, looks like mine. I dont lose any fluid, keep trying to clean it and find it but I am thinking it has something to do w the rack.
I am interested in what you find.

Did the oil change from hell
  • 4 different stores and 50 miles of driving to get all the oil RP HPS 10/40
  • No local carries Mobil one 301 filters any more - went to a Mann
  • Oil filter would not come off crushed with the filter wrench
  • Punched a screwdriver through then the glowshift pancake adapter rotated, finally got the damm thing off
  • Get it all back together than the oil seal for the glow shift adaptor is leaking a lot
  • Pull it apart - a bit of rtv on the seal and reset
  • No major leaks finally one small dribble leak maybe a drop or 2 in an hours driving so it is good
  • check the oil pressure that at least is excellent 50 PSI at start dropping to about 26 at 181 idling
  • Oh and it start to rain as I finished
At least the air filter and transfer case top up went without issue
