Default Wipers Stopping in Service Position After Motor/Assembly Replacement

I just replaced my wiper motor and assembly linkage. When the wipers are on they rotate to/from the correct location. However, when I turn them off, they always stop in what appears to be the service position in the middle of the windshield. I can't figure out how to get it to reset to to the bottom of the windshield where they should reset. Does anyone know the solve for this? Again, the motor and everything else installed are new parts so I don't think they are the issue (have Google and bad motor switch came up as potential cause).

UPDATE: When I activate service mode with the wipers stopped in what seems to be the service mode position, the wipers move from the middle of the windshield down to the bottom where they should rest normally. For the life of me, I can't figure out why they would ever rotate counter clockwise when entering the service position, but that is what they are doing.

New one for me. I'll be watching. Stupid question, but you are testing with hood closed?

Yes, we tested with the hood closed. When you start the wipers, they go down to the bottom and then up to the bottom first and then go all the way up and continue operating as normal until you shut them off, where they will stop in the middle. The whole thing is very bizarre. I am thinking it has to be some sort of code/reset that can be done with a diagnostic tool.

interesting... is it that the wipers are in service mode or is it that the installation was not correct and its a misaligned linkage issue??

I would think if the linkage was misaligned, they wouldn't operate normally? When the wipers are turned on, they go back and forth stopping at the correct top and bottom positions. It is only when they are turned off that they rest in the middle of the windshield. A faulty motor switch is often the culprit, but the motor is brand new. The only thing I can think of is something needs to be reset using a diagnostic tool to relearn the rest position or something. Was hoping to avoid taking it to my Euro Car shop, but Google and the forums are not providing much help unfortunately.

UPDATE: Took it to a Rover specialist and it was determined the mechanic that installed the new components basically had the linkage almost exactly 180 degrees off, which is why they appeared to work normal but the service mode was doing the opposite that it should. He unhooked the linkage from the motor, manually rotated the linkage (took him two attempts to get it aligned exactly right) and now everything works as normal. So to summarize, this was a mechanical issue, not electronic. The wipers/linkage need to be positioned exactly as they were before you took them off when replacing the motor/assembly. If you lose track, you just need to trial and error unhooking it from the motor, rotating, and reconnecting to see how they align. Eventually you'll get it right.
