Default 2018 Discovery td6: 83000 miles service counter won’t reset

Hi! I was wandering if anyone else has experienced this before.

We have 2018 discovery td6 with 83850 miles on it. The last oil change I did the service counter reset with only 4300 miles to next service (unusual). I just did another oil change myself and the service counter refuses to reset (both manually and my foxwell computer wont reset).

I had the software in the car updated about 1.5 years ago to fix the service counter reset bug. Just fyi. Service counter resets always worked for me in the past.

Does this mean something else is wrong with the car and the dealer needs to look at it?

Thanks in advance!

Same issue with my '19 TD6. I was originally told by my dealership, "no known fix, just bring it in and we can reset it for you". The first time I went back, I was told unless they do the oil change, "for liability reasons" they can't do the reset. I have been told to get an OBD scanner that can to the reset, but haven't found a reasonable price one.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah my foxwell nt710 was able to reset it in the past before I had the software update applied, but now that scanner won’t do it now. It is strange.

I did perform a diagnostic scan and found the powertrain control module showed a fault code: P24A4-97Particulate Filter Restriction - Soot Accumulation Too High Bank 1 [P24A4]-Component or system operation obstructed or blocked.

the car is not showing a check engine light nor does it have reduced power. I don’t know if this is related to the service reset…

Has anyone else seen this fault vault without a check engine light before?

JLR is aware, and are not going to fix it.

I had to buy a Launch cpr 909

Thanks for the information. I have a foxwell nt710 scanner to that I used in the past to reset the service reminder. That always worked. Now that tool doesn’t work and states oil dilution rate 0.07 % and next service is in 8 days when I do attempt a reset.

Are there now only certain scanner tools that can reset this now?

I wonder if its related to the P24A4 fault I pulled from
The power train control module. Any thoughts? Thanks again!

not related to the P24A4 fault........

The higher end scanners can reset it.

At the Time, the Launch was the cheaper option.

I will say my nearest stealer/dealer offered to reset it anytime I need it, but it 75 miles one way.

The best scan tool for the D5 is the GAP Tool Gen 4

#1 most important thing. Oil change intervals 5-8K and right spec oil. ( I run Mobil 1 ESP 5w-30 IMO)

#2 transmission fluid change 50-60K if not towing

#3 transfer case and diffs 50K

Thanks for all of the information! I will look into a higher end scanner. I will probably try the cheaper one first. I had all of the driveline fluids ( transmission - fluid, pan and filter, both differential fluids and transfer case fluid) changed last year at about 75000 miles. Next up will be the timing belt, pulley etc and fuel pump belt.

i have been changing the oil every 5-6k miles. I was using Castrol pro 5w-30 jlr 03.5005 spec oil and I recently switched to motul 5w-30 eco clean+ C1 oil that meets jlr 03.5005 spec.

i will look into the Mobil 1 oil you mentioned.

i cleared the p24a4 code and I will see if it comes back. If it does, I will try some archoil fuel system dpf cleaner to fuel and see if that will help ( worth a shot). Otherwise the car runs great!

Thanks!

Both of those oils are great.

I do use an additive for extra lube for the CP4 pump. Diesel Kleen

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Power-Ser...kaAvFJEALw_wcB

I also use a def additive to eliminate crystallization.

https://rislone.com/products/diesel-...MaAqeAEALw_wcB

DPF cleaners are not effective, IMO..... Get out on the highway 70-80mph for an hour. ( if possible get a cheap BT obdII adapter monitor EGTBS1 through EGTBS4 temps, when in regen temp will be above 1000 degrees) ( I use Torque app, with Carista reader)

Hope this helps!
