Had another stab at trying to replace CPS. Total so far- 4 hours
What are you having trouble with? This has been about a 20 minute job for me the couple of times I have done it. The retainer clip for the electrical connection is missing on mine so it’s easier to access but I’ve never had a problem reaching up and accessing the bolts and the clip. Unless you don’t mean the crankshaft position sensor.
Yes I mean the CPS. I agree that the part itself is nearing child’s play, but the plug! No videos cover that. I have found “make a hookâ€. Ok, but then the Long screwdriver needs to have 3 90 degree elbows in it? Or what? What am I missing.????
SAI equipped D2's can sometimes have less wiggle room in the CPS harness. However with that said the longest it's taken me was maybe an hour from start to finish and that was with an SAI D2 and a clip that didn't want to snap into place.
"If" the CPS harness is in it's little metal retaining clip you can usually use a long thin screwdriver to get it un-hooked. Then on the install you honestly will have better luck from above at getting it connected. I used two long thin screwdrivers (one to hold the harness into place) & the other for guiding the CPS sensor wiring.
Today I finally had a little time to tinker so I went ahead and performed the Option B fix on my 04 D2. It would throw the 3 musketeer's upon startup or maybe during a long drive. When I pulled the codes it was always for Shuttle Valve Faults. Next on the list will be the XYZ switch. It'll sometimes pop up the blinking M &S after starting the D2 and putting it into R or D. I at first thought it was dirty battery connections or a weak battery causing the ABS Fault & XYZ to fault out, but I cleaned the battery terminals, checked the grounds, and tested the battery.
So I plan on just tossing my spare XYZ Switch on it tomorrow.
"Hmmm, ... what is that leaking on my left side front control arm?"
Later while driving out the driveway... "Oh ****, no brakes!"
Ordered a new master and while I was at it four new calipers.
Also, "Love that sweet smell of gear oil, .. uhg" Changed fluids, and dam glad I did. Transfer and rear diff was sweet smelling milk. Only owned this D2 for less then a month. But so easy to work on. Just a bit cold to do so though.
