Oh and after the silly T blew to bits I started just checking the usual under the hood, IAC was completely stuck/frozen, fixed that, then I re-routed several harnesses properly and I noticed a very faint but obvious trail on the driver side valve cover & sure enough the TBH plate was just a seeping and wet to the touch.... When I bought it the first thing that jumped out was the brand new TBH plate & I was like fine I'll leave it as it's brand new. Well I ran it 30min yesterday and maybe 15min today and it's already seeping.
Needless to say it's now gone and I just plugged the lines vs the usual re-route using some 5/16 coolant line. I firmly stand behind that thing as being a massive POS and not a single D2/P38 I'll ever own will have one. I tried to give it a chance, but it failed after 45min of being used lol.
Once I locate another T or I come up with a cheap durable alternative I'll slap some more coolant in it and go from there.
Best4X4, sounds more like something is sticking in the valve body of the trans, if you get no forward movement when first moving shifter to D, but goes into drive after manually shifting it through gears. Torque converter wouldn't know what gear you're in, it's function is basically the same during operation, until lock up. If there was an issue with D all the time, regardless of how you approached it, then l'd say you had a clutch pack issue (possible drum o-ring not holding pressure).
Anyhow, this is one of those very rare times that l would recommend an additive. Lucas or some other brand of trans recoditioner, which would possible help unstick a shuttle valve or solenoid in the valve body that's hanging up.
Just sorted out some leaks, turns out my exhaust leak was because, get this, there was no bolts left connecting to the headder on the left side, made a Lowe’s run and fixed that, also got a spare cover... looking to do a bunch more fun stuff with this bad boy once I get my silly dirt bike sorted!
Had my serpintine belt shread on me and went about getting a new one and replacing a pulley or two. Following the belt shredding there’s a new sound coming from the engine almost like a pinging or ringing sound. So looks like some more time will be spent under the hood.
