Just got an FV308 pcv valve in. Is the valve inside supposed to be kind of loose or is it supposed to be spring loaded? I can hear a small metal piece moving inside the valve freely

By design, it has a check valve inside. It rattles because the spring is very weak.

Ok I was halfway wondering if it was just weak spring. Just wanted to be sure! Thank you!

Pcv mod done! Though looking at the old components I’m not sure I needed it lol.

How far did everyone thread their pcv on? It got a little tight about halfway down the threads but I got all the threads in without excessive effort before it finally stopped.

As I remember it is a NPT thread. I always use teflon tape on NPT.

Don't worry about how far the PCV valve threads into the upper intake. Just screw it in until it's snug, then give it just a little "nudge".

Does your truck have SAI? That's less common on the earlier DIIs, but I see something connected to the small vacuum port under where you installed the PCV valve.

yes I believe it does! It’s the pump against the firewall on passenger side right?

It's unfortunate your truck has SAI. It just gets in the way and adds complication. Have you run the VIN? I wonder if your truck was sold originally in California.

I'm no expert, but in my experience SAI is uncommon on '99-'02 DIIs, and ubiquitous on '03-'04s.
