[QUOTE=Best4x4;644097]That sucks Alex!! When I was rebuilding my 500.00 4.6L that was the first thing I inspected. That is a PITA job..... The tool that works well is like 300.00 and I've never seen anyone rent one sadly. I've watched a few home made tool video's and then watched a video with the 300.00 tool and it was night and day.

My local O'reilly Auto Parts special ordered and then allowed me to return a cam bearing tool for zero cost. They just added it to the rental program when I was done with it.

you mileage may vary

If my guy is at OReilly today I'll check with them. Otherwise I'm gonna be making something out of threaded rod, washers, and sockets. Thanks

Oh well, life goes on. I guess I'll have to get a cam on order from L8 also. Any idea on the ship times for a Crower cam? Do they keep them in stock? I sure hope so; I don't want to go back to the factory cam.

Anywho, here's the pictures.

Alex,

I got a Crower cam from Sumitt.
It came in 2 or 3 days.
$249 vs $89 for a stocker from Lucky8

Let me know if you need an oil pump, I have one that's practically brand new.
I bought a new oil pump when I changed lifters/pushrods, rockershafts.
The new oil pump may have 15-20minutes on it before I took the engine out( it was primed correctly too).
I bought a new timing cover for the rebuild, and it came with a new oil pump in it.
If you need it, tell me, and I'll get it in the mail today or tomorrow.

I've checked summit and eBay a couple times. I'm not sure they carry them any more. I can only find them with the distributor gear; not without.

I'm gonna run down to O'Reilly in a bit. They have a parts deal with summit. They can sell anything on the summit site at the same (or better, if you've got "a guy") price. I'll see if my guy can turn anything up and get it on order for me. If not I'll order direct from Crower.

I'm also going to have him get a set of Buick 215 lifters in so I can compare them side by side. I've got a sneaking suspicion that they're the same, and they're a fair bit cheaper.

Thanks for the offer on the oil pump, but mines only about 10k miles old so I'll just leave it. I appreciate it though!

The Ebay link I posted for Summit Racing showed 8 53229’s in stock. You can purchase then directly from Crower as well for like 10.00 more vs Summit. 53330 brings up nothing on Ebay vs the 53229.

I’d have actually saved $$ going directly thru Crower vs Summit as I forgot about the sales tax. With Crower I wouldn’t have had to pay it.

Yes sir
I bought the Crower from Sumitt about 2 months ago.
Googled it, and it brought me to their site.

That eBay link showed on that had the distributor gear, unfortunately. I checked with my guy at O'Reilly. He said they were backordered into next month through summit for the one without the distributor gear.

I've got a nice set of Rhoads lifters sitting in the garage. They're used, but would be perfect for that larger cam IF I could find someone to lap them for me. I don't really trust myself to do it by hand.

The pic is wrong, but 53229 is a 53229. I even think on their website they mention actual product varies from pic. That is the same exact link I used when I bought mine.

Blew a lower radiator hose a couple weeks ago so I spent yesterday working on the truck -

New T-Stat (180)
New Coolant Res & Cap
All New Hoses
New Plugs (Champ Platinums)
New STI Wires

Went ahead and picked up some new wire loom and am starting to change that out as well.

Just waiting for the new Radiator Cover (upper and lower) and then she'll be back out on the road.
